Barry McGovern Reads Samuel Beckett

Noted Irish actor Barry McGovern will give a performance of readings from the poetry and prose of Samuel Beckett. Widely regarded as one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century, Beckett was a prolific novelist, playwright, and poet. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1969 for “his writing, which – in new forms for the novel and drama – in the destitution of modern man acquires its elevation.”
Barry McGovern has had a long career in theater, film, television and radio. His early career included spells with the RTÉ Players and the Abbey Theatre of Ireland. He is regarded by many as one of the leading exponents of the work of Samuel Beckett. His one-man Beckett show,I’ll Go On, produced by Dublin’s Gate Theatre, has played worldwide. He has toured with the Gate productions ofWaiting for Godot,Endgame, andHappy Days. He has also played inKrapp’s Last Tape. In early 2012 he played Vladimir in the acclaimed production ofWaiting for Godotat the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles which garnered him a 2012 Ovation Award Lead Actor nomination.
