Georgia State falls short to Appalachian State

On Friday night at the Soccer Complex, the Georgia State Women’s Soccer team lost to Appalachian State 2-1, despite controlling the opening half with Whitney Ravan scoring her eighth goal of the season. Two goals in quick succession from the Mountaineers downed the Panthers on the night.

The opening half was dominated by the Panthers, who had four shots in the first seven minutes. Panthers defender Jenna Moore had a header deflect off the post in the fourth minute, and Ravan sent the rebound wide.

Defender Taina Anglade then saw a pair of chances come close, with a shot saved by the Mountaineers goalkeeper in the twelfth minute and a shot headed off the goal line by a Mountaineers defender in the seventeenth minute.

The Panthers outshot the Mountaineers (9-4) in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net. They were left ruing their lack of finishing after the Mountaineers scored less than one minute into the second half. A ball was played into the 18-yard box and an Appalachian State player was there to score.

In the sixtieth minute, the Mountaineers scored again, after a cross into the box was converted to make the score 2-0. The Panthers responded from the ensuing kick-off, with Rebecca Copeland finding Ravan in the box, who fired a shot into the net.

The game went back and forth, but ended at 2-1. The Panthers host Texas State on Oct. 26 at Panthersville in their final regular season game.
