Hundreds of migrants suspected to be dead after Mediterranean shipwreck

Authorities suspect a shipwreck that capsized April 18 off the coast of Italy may have resulted in the deaths of some migrants bound for Europe, according to CNN. This sinking could be the worst in a series of shipwrecks that have caused 900 migrants to lose their lives this year, according to the International Organization for Migration. Human traffickers organize these voyages to attract migrants who are searching for better lives, according to CNN. The migrants travel far distances to reach ships in substandard conditions, often destined for what Loris De Filippi, president of the international aid group Doctors Without Borders, called a mass grave in the Mediterranean.
