Georgia State’s Division of Student Affairs will welcome a new Student Affairs Advisor II, according to Director of the Student-University Center, Boyd Beckwith.
Michelle Z. Canales, the new advisor, has a Masters degree in COllege Student Affairs from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, according to Beckwith.
Canales will work with the Assistant Director for Programs, advice program planning and help with leadership development. Her position will replace having multiple graduate assistants, according to Beckwith.
“Because we want to focus on the development of the students who are involved with Spotlight Programs Board and Campus Events we felt it was important to provide them with a full-time advisor who had a Master’s degree in Student Affairs, rather than be advised by graduate students from a wide range of other disciplines (since GSU does not offer a Master’s degree in Student Affairs) who may not be able to assist with programs due to their class schedules,” Beckwith said.
Student Affairs is also looking to employ seven student leaders for the position of Campus Events Director, according to Georgia State’s Campus Events website.
These students will have a focus in one of the seven areas including Around Atlanta, Arts and Distinguished Speakers Series, the website states.
Ideas & Issues, Membership and Panthers at Woodruff are some of the additional areas of focus for the leaders. They are also looking to have a Campus Events Director focusing on Public Relations & Social Media, according to the website.
Student Affairs is concluding the search for a Campus Events Director, according to Beckwith.
“Some searches take longer than others and that is the case with the Campus Events position,” Beckwith said.
