One student and one campus visitor were hospitalized Monday night after gunfire rang out near Piedmont North. Police say the shootout took place after a drug deal went awry.
Both suspects are now charged with felony assault, attempted murder and misdemeanor firearm possession.
Around 9:30 p.m. Georgia State University Police responded to cries of shooting in front of the residence hall.
Shortly after arriving on site, paramedics carted off Georgia State student Bryan Rhoden, 18, and visitor Sheldon Flournoy, 19, to Grady Memorial Hospital in “serious condition,” according to GSUPD.
Police found nearby a Glock handgun and a bag of weed believed to be Rhoden’s. They connected a second gun, a .22 caliber pistol, to Flournoy.
Georgia State student ShaDean Martin told The Signal she heard that one of the injured men was seen running away from the scene “screaming, ‘I got hit. I got hit.'”
Police detained a third suspect to be questioned during an investigation supported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
Both suspects shot are in stabled condition, according to GSUPD
