It took less than a season for Lane Carico and Katie Madewell to make an impression on the national sand volleyball community.
Georgia State’s top flight received an invitation on Monday to the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala..
“Absolutely incredible,” Madewell said about the invitation. “I’m glad to be representing Georgia State at nationals since we’re only a first year program.”
The duo has amassed a 27-5 record this season and have won two tournament titles.
This is the first season the two have played together and they knew right away that they could make some noise this year.
“We definitely thought it was a possibility, but we were focused on the team as a whole getting there first,” Madewell said. “From the beginning, me and Lane have had chemistry that has lasted throughout the entire season. Our chemistry and our trust of one another made our partnership so successful.”
Carico and Madewell will be competing in Pool A along with pairs from Florida International, Pacific, UAB and UCLA.
The championship will be played May 3-5.
