Slime is taking over social media as people become obsessed with the novelty craft. One way to uncover all the hype is to mix up your own with a few materials and lots of color.
Like a blast from the past, most 90’s babies might have played with neon-colored slime that came packaged in clear plastic containers. Recently, social media outlets, such as Instagram, have been swarming with video posts featuring the mesmerizing craft.
Mixing and Measuring
Creating slim is like mastering a science experience, it requires precise measurements to avoid certain manipulations that will affect the project’s consistency and thickness.
Once the materials are ready, you’re ready to start making the slime. This project requires a:
- Mixing bowl
- Measuring cup
- Mixing spoon
- Clear Elmer’s Glue
- Water (¼ cup)
- Liquid Starch (½ cup)
- Acrylic paint or food coloring
Steps:
- Pour the Elmer’s Glue into a mixing bowl, having a large container will help contain the added ingredients.
- Once the glue is in the bowl, mix in the acrylic paint or food coloring. Adding color is optional, but it’s easier to mix the color while the glue is still liquid.
- After mixing in the color, slowly add the water and liquid starch. Try not to pour the entire cups of starch and water all at once. Using a mixing spoon, stir the slim, while adding more starch slowly to achieve a looser or denser consistency.
Tips:
- Store the slime in a container that has a lid.
- Borax is an optional substitute for liquid starch.
- Some tutorials found on Youtube show vloggers adding confetti and Orbeez ( a small and squishy water filled polymer balls that come in vibrant colors).
Now that the slime is finished, you can have fun squishing the slippery material in your hands or experiment with different colors. Using glitter glue, metallic or glow-in-the-dark paint is optional, but it’s great way to make the project shine.
Manipulations causes the slippery substance to become harder and once you lay it on a flat counter or surface it slowly spreads. When you stretch the slim it becomes very flexible and the texture is very smooth, and it can take the shape of any container.
