Shelby R. Grubbs is the newest appointee to the Board of Visitors of the College of Law.
Grubbs, an attorney at law, practices in the area of civil litigation and dispute resolution spanning many different practice areas at the firm Miller & Martin, PLLC. Grubbs is also active as a writer, speaker and commentator and in civic affairs according to his firm’s website.
Grubbs was one of 7 attorneys at the firm to be named part of 2013 Georgia Super Lawyers, able to assist attorneys and sophisticated consumers in their search for legal counsel.
Members of the board play a vital role in assisting the dean of the law school respond to challenges facing legal education. According to the American Bar Association, some of these challenges include preparing lawyers for “the seismic changes currently taking place in the world community, as it relates to law.”
Members of the board are appointed by the dean and selected for their “demonstrated commitment to the school, distinction as leader in law, and business, and their service to the public,” according to the College of Law’s website.
The board routinely meets throughout the year to discuss issues concerning legal education; future plans for the College of Law and issues dealing with student admissions, careers, faculty research and constituent involvement among other issues.
The Board’s 2012-13 roster consists of 18 different members, with experiences varying from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and the Superior Court of Georgia, Stone Mountain Circuit to companies and firms such as The Coca-Cola Company and King & Spalding LLP.
