Georgia State sand volleyball’s season came to a close this weekend at Gulf Shores, Alabama with losses to the Pepperdine Waves and Stetson Hatters on the first day of the tournament Friday.
The Panthers lost to the Waves in their opening-round matchup of the tournament. With the loss, Georgia State would face Stetson in a consolation-round matchup before losing to the Hatters, eliminating them from the tournament.
Georgia State’s top pair of Sara Olivova and Jansen Button were named as AVCA All-Americans for the tournament.
The team’s season ends with an all-time best record of 18-3.

Pairs tournament
Olivova and Button also advanced into the pairs tournament. The Panthers’ duo earned an opening round victory over Florida State’s Taylor Nyquist and Melanie Pavels, 21-14, 18-21, 15-13. Olivova and Button’s second-round match against Loyola Marymount’s Betsi Metter and Sarah Sponcil went three sets, but resulted in a 21-11, 23-25, 15-7 loss to Metter and Sponcil.
