Beach volleyball season has come and gone. It was a season of downs for The Muckrakers. Would you believe me if I said the team made the final, though? We couldn’t believe it either.
After finishing the regular season with a spotless 0-6 record, courtesy of their consistent mediocrity on the sand, a fairy-tale playoff run ensued. The March Madness-like trek to the grandstand final brought tears of joy to the thousands of fans in the stands, as their beloved journalists miraculously strung together some half-decent wins.
In the first playoff game — which we will call the ‘toilet bowl’ — The Muckrakers faced off against ROTC for the right to do battle with top-seeded Me So Goni.
The atmosphere was electric, and the “pure passion” displayed on the sand was at its peak. Sports writer Erik Indrisano exerted his dominance, as the team coasted to a comfortable 2 sets to nil victory.
The following semi-final matchup against Me So Goni clearly meant a lot to sports editor Espen Indrisano, who couldn’t stop screaming after every point won. Yes, he’s a bit overdramatic.
After dropping the first set, Espen was the ultimate hero, as he took over the second set with his killer serves and set up a win-or-go-home tiebreaker, which The Muckrakers somehow won.
The final was a trainwreck, though. With championship T-shirts on their minds, the team choked, falling in straight sets. But let’s be honest, the team had no place in that final. The Muckrakers held their heads high and gladly accepted the silver medal.
