The Georgia State softball team defeated the Auburn Tigers by a final score of 4-1 at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn, Ala. on Wednesday evening.

Only one of the four Georgia State runs was earned as the Auburn defense committed four errors throughout the game.

The Tigers struck first, grabbing a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning as freshman infielder Emily Carosone drove in sophomore outfielder Brandi Melero.

Georgia State would get on the board in the top of the third as Jessica Clifton reached first base on an error by Carosone.  MeQuilla Franklin scored on the error after reaching  base on a miscue by catcher McKenzie Kilpatrick earlier in the inning.

The Panthers scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, again benefiting from two more Auburn errors.

The winning pitcher was Georgia State’s Kaitlyn Medlam, who now was four victories on the season.

The loss was credited to the Tigers’ Lexi Davis despite giving up just one earned run in four innings of work.

The team will head to Woodstock, Ga. on Friday to begin a five games in three days weekend tournament.

Georgia State’s first games will be on Friday as they take on Virginia Tech at 10:00 A.M. and Jacksonville State at 3:00 P.M..
