On Sunday afternoon from the soccer complex, Georgia State women’s soccer defeated Texas State 1-0, with a goal from Panthers midfielder Kylie Ruffule that was enough for the win.
The game was the last of the team’s regular season, and seniors Nikki Fedele, Eryka Hawkins, Elizabeth Kinsel, Lindsey Leonardo, and Whitney Ravan were honored before the game.
The first half began with the Bobcats taking control of the match, with Panthers goalkeeper Brie Haynes making a save in the 14th minute.
Georgia State worked their way back into the game, with Margaret Bruemmer in a dangerous mood, almost picking up an assist after a great set-piece delivery. The first half ended goalless.
The Panthers came charging out in the second half, with Lauren Harriman’s shot cleared off the line in the 52nd minute. The Georgia State pressure payed off in the 57th minute with Ruffule’s goal.
Ravan cut the ball back for Ruffule, whose half-volley flew into the top-right corner. The Panthers managed the rest of the game, which ended 1-0.
“It was a great way to end the regular season on a high note,” said Head Coach Derek Leader.” “It was a good send off for our seniors and is a fantastic way to build momentum for the conference tournament.”
The Sun Belt tournament begins Nov. 5 in Mobile, Ala.
