Panthers break out the big bats

Georgia State softball defeated the Northern Kentucky Norse for the second time in the Panther Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

After defeating Northern Kentucky 10-0 in five innings on Saturday, they were victorious by a final score of 8-2 on Sunday.

Callie Alford went 2 for 4 with a pair of  home runs to pace the Georgia State offense.

Freshman right handed pitcher Katie Worley picked up her first victory of the young season as she pitched a complete game, four-hitter. . Worley gave up two runs, two walks, and struck out seven Northern Kentucky Norse.

Northern Kentucky’s only runs of the game came in the fourth and seven innings as designated player Kaylin Steinmetz and pinch hitting catcher Allie Corner drove in runs.

Panthers Even Record As Nowacki Hits Two More Homers

 

The Panther Invitational concluded with Georgia State  defeating the Oakland Golden Grizzlies by a final score of 11-2.

Two more home runs for Paige Nowacki gave her six for the tournament.

Oakland scored their only runs of the game in the first inning. An Erika Polidori double scored Jackie Kisman. Erin Galloway followed with a double of her own to drive home Polidori.

Georgia State pitcher Kaitlyn Medlam began to settle in after the first inning, at one point retiring 13 consecutive Golden Grizzlies.

She finished with a complete game and struck out three.

In the top of the third, the Panthers began to get the offense going.

Paige Nowacki hit the first of her two home runs which also drove home Lauren Coleman.

Georgia State also scored four in the fourth, capped by a three run triple by Ashley Christy.

Three fifth inning runs would be followed in the seventh inning by the second of Nowacki’s homers. She is now five shy of tying the all time Georgia State home run record.

Medlam was credited with the win while Oakland’s Erin Kownacki picked up the loss. It is Oakland’s first loss of the season while the Panthers now have an even record at four wins and four losses.

The Panthers’ next game will be at Auburn on Wednesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 P.M..
