This semester, Georgia State Panther Ambassadors included the College of Law and T Deck into its Route 5 Shuttle.
The Panther Ambassadors offer Georgia State students, faculty, staff, alumni and their guests a free shuttle service every night from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
There are currently four routes that stop at designated Georgia State property locations including Aderhold, Petit Science Center and University Housing.
BJ Hayles, a Panther ambassador, started working at the shuttle service shortly before they added the new stops to Route 5 back in September.
“I drive a golf cart around campus taking students to Georgia State property locations. I mostly work Post 5 and I was the first one to do the new Post 5 Route,” he said.
The College of Law and T Deck stops were added after complaints about panhandlers that were harassing students while they were leaving the new College of Law building, according to Hayles.
“We usually have 10 people working each night,” Hayles said.
These people include four drivers, two people doing area checks, three people stationed at area posts and someone in command, according Hayles.
Georgia State law student Ryan Behndleman usually parks at T Deck and thinks the new additions to Route 5 will be beneficial to people who need help getting around campus.
“It sounds like a great idea. It should help the folks get around campus, especially at night when it’s sketchy outside,” he said.
Marie Cruz, a Georgia State Biology major, visits the College of Law to study and was unaware of the new Panther Ambassador stops.
“I think it’s definitely helpful for kids who stay past six. Especially now that it gets darker faster,” she said.
