After eight months since playing their last game, the Georgia State Panthers are ready to take the field once again as they open the college football season tonight when they face the Abilene Christian Wildcats from the Georgia Dome.
Head coach Trent Miles has named Nick Arbuckle the starting quarterback for Wednesday’s game. Fans will immediately be able to see what the new QB brings to the table and how the offense will function without Albert Wilson.
The Wildcats are a team that lost many of its offensive playmakers from last season, but is returning many of its defensive starters, including senior defensive lineman Nick Richardson who is ten sacks shy of the school’s sack record.
Georgia State Head Coach Trent Miles said in a press conference last week that Abilene Christian will present a real challenge for his players.
“They bring in a winning mentality. They’ve had eight straight winning seasons, have won championships and have an excellent coaching staffs,” Miles said. “They’ll be just as talented, if not, more so than we are. It will be a battle for us.”
The game will be aired on television nationally on ESPNU as well as on radio on WRAS 88.5 and 1340 AM The Fan 3. Georgia State’s new athletic director Charlie Cobb as well as Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson with be among those in attendance.
