New fiber optic ring should help university’s internet speed.

The addition of a newly installed Northern Fiber Optic Ring should eliminate internet accessing problems for Georgia State.

Southern Telecom, an affiliate of the electric utility firm Southern Company, recently installed the North Fiber Optic Ring, which will help the internet operate faster.  The Northern Fiber Optic Ring will connect to Georgia State’s existing Southern Fiber Optic Ring.

Students have constantly complained about the server running slow or connecting to the school’s website.

“At school sometimes, I would have problems with connecting to Cat Chat during registration time,” says Hayes White, senior and Public Relations major.

Earl Hudson, College Technology Manager of Nursing and Health Profession, said that the Northern Fiber Optic Ring would create more data to go through the WI-FI faster.

“Mainly it’s better than what we are using now, it has higher speeds,” Hudson said. “More people will be [able to] access the internet at a faster rate.”
