Georgia State women’s soccer was unable to find the net in a 0-0 draw with Belmont. The game remained scoreless after 110 minutes of overtime action for the Panthers, who now post a 0-4-2 record for a rough start to the season.
Both teams began slowly, only recording one shot each in the first 10 minutes, but the action picked up in the 23rd minute with Panther Whitney Ravan testing the Belmont Bruins goalkeeper Megan Byrd with a shot. Three minutes later, Ashley Nagy had a shot on goal saved by Byrd. Momentum swung back and forth for the remainder of the half, but neither team had anything to show for it going into the break.
The second half ended as the first half had, with both teams creating chances, but neither able to make the critical breakthrough. After 90 minutes of regulation time, and a 20 minute overtime, the game ended in a scoreless draw. The Panthers had recorded 14 shots and had 7 corner kicks, with goalkeeper Brie Haynes making 5 saves for the shutout, her first of the season.
“Everyone played really well,” said Head Coach Derek Leader, “We are a very fit team but I am more impressed by the movement of the ball and the movement off the ball. Now we just have to put the ball in the net.”
The next game for the Panthers will be on Friday, Sept. 12 at the Soccer Complex in Panthersville.
