It was a close match against the Troy Trojans on Saturday, but Georgia State men’s tennis would eventually fall short to Troy by a final of 4-3. The loss drops the Panthers’ record to 1-3 on the young season.
Doubles
Things began in correct fashion for the Panthers as Zack Kennedy and Sofiane Chevallier earned a 6-3 victory over junior Giovani Samaha and sophomore Pablo Moreno.
Georgia State’s Valentin Horvat and Andrei Andrukhou came up just short against Trojans junior Gabriel Dias and freshman Cyprian Owczarz by a score of 7-6. Jannis Koeke and Sebastian Acuna also suffered a 7-6 defeat by sophomore Hassan Ndayishimye and freshman Andy Lau to earn the doubles point for Troy.
Singles
Both teams exchanged straight-set wins starting with Troy’s Ndayishimye defeating Zack Kennedy, 6-4, 7-5. The Panthers answered with a 6-0, 7-5 win by Acuna over Lau.
Koeke claimed the first set in his singles match against the Trojans’ Dais, but Troy’s junior would prevail over Georgia State’s Koeke with a pair of 6-2 wins.
Andrukhou dropped his first set against Troy junior Daniel Bustamente 4-6 before fighting back to earn 7-5 and 6-4 victories claiming his match against Bustamente.
Chevallier notched a straight set, 6-4, 7-6 victory over Troy sophomore Pablo Moreno, but a 6-3, 6-2 win by Samaha over the Panthers’ Joseph Bishop placed the Trojans in the win column over Georgia State.
The Panthers’ next three matches will be from Louisiana. On Friday, Georgia State will on road facing Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Panthers will travel to New Orleans taking on DePaul on Saturday and Tulane on Sunday.
