Georgia State men’s soccer had its four-game winning streak snapped with a loss from the South Carolina Gamecocks in overtime. The Panthers had the lead until two late goals from South Carolina saw the game end 2-1.
The game opened with South Carolina creating the bulk of chances, but were unable to find the net. In the 26th minute, the Gamecocks were awarded a penalty, but Panther’s goalkeeper CJ Cochran made a great save to push the shot wide.
The Panthers created six shots in the remainder of the first half, but none were on target and the half ended at 0-0.
After a period of South Carolina dominance early in the second half, the Panthers were able to make the breakthrough in the 62nd minute. Aaron Jones curled a great free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box over the wall and into the top left corner of the goal.
The Gamecocks were not finished though, and after having a few shots that deflected off the goal frame, finally found the back of the net in the 89th minute when a South Carolina player collected the rebound from a previous shot and chipped the ball over Cochran.
The game then went to overtime, and in the 93rd minute South Carolina player Jeff Addai directed a header from a corner into the back of the net to give South Carolina the win.
Georgia State’s next game will be against Belmont Oct. 7 at home.
