The Georgia State men’s golf team came home with a 12th-place finish in the Linger Longer Invitational with a 297 final round on Sunday at Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Georgia.
A total of 15 teams participated in the event with seven being ranked in the top 35 in the latest Golfstat rankings
The Texas Longhorns took the five-stroke victory with the Georgia Bulldogs finishing second.
Texas shot a 273 in the first round on Friday and followed that up with a 284 Saturday in the second round. The Longhorns shot 283 on Sunday, closing out the tournament team victory at 24 under-par with a score of 840 for the entire tournament. Georgia had a score of 845 which was 19 under-par.
Georgia’s Lee McCoy had the individual victory with a 202 for the tournament which was 14 under-par. McCoy had rounds of 65, 70 and 67 over the weekend.
The Panthers shot a 286 on Friday followed by a 290 Saturday and a 297 on Sunday giving the Georgia State a total score of 873 and placing them 12th of the 15 teams.
The highest finishing Panthers where were senior Davin White and junior J.J. Grey as both finished tied for 30th place. Both White and Grey finished the tournament at one-over-par.
White opened with a 76 on Friday in the first round and followed that up with a personal tournament best 69 on Saturday, then a 72 in the final round Sunday.
Grey opened with a 70 on Friday and shot a 73 and 74 the final two rounds of the event.
The Panthers will not get much of a break as they head right back out for the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, South Carolina starting this Friday.
