Lynda Brown Wright, an advocate of diversity within faculty groups for 25 years, has been named the associate provost for Faculty Affairs at Georgia State.
“It’s very exciting to me to be a part of something that’s new and fresh, and to help see it come to fruition,” Wright said to Jeremy Craig, Public Relations and Marketing Communications specialist.
Brown was one of seven African-American students who desegregated her local junior high school in post-segregated Louisiana. She is also a tenured professor of counseling and psychological services at the University of Kentucky.
“The students look like America,” Wright said, referring to Georgia State’s ranking as the most diverse university of its kind. “It’s wonderful to look at this university and realize, as we’ve been successful with our students, that we can institute focused initiatives that will help increase the quality and diversity of our faculty members.”
Brown will be responsible for overseeing the Office of Faculty Affairs and help develop faculty members’ careers, among other things.
