Tim Lappano from the Detroit Lions is the newest member of the Georgia State football coaching staff taking the position of wide receivers coach, Head Coach Trent Miles announced Thursday.
Lappano is coming of coaching five years with the Lions, four of which as a tight-ends coach and last season was the wide receivers coach.
Lappano has more than 30 years of coaching experience coaching both in college football programs and in the NFL.
Lappano has coached NFL greats such as All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson and tight-end Brandon Pettigrew.
Lappano coached with Miles in the past at Washington as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (2005-08) while Miles was the running back coach (2005-7).
In a press release from Georgia State Athletics, Miles called Lappano an “outstanding person, role model, coach, and friend” and believes his receivers will benefit greatly from Lappano’s experience and knowledge.
Lappano is filling the void left by former Georgia State wide receiver coach Keary Colbert who left the Panthers to accept a job from the University of Alabama as a football analyst.
Lappano, 57, graduated from Idaho University in 1983 where he played football for one season and began his coaching career as a running back coach.
