Gift guide

Valentine’s Day is around the corner,
and we hope that you have a
gift for your sweetheart already. If
not, fear not! We’ve got you covered!

For your girl:

• A care package is perfect for those
of you in a long-distance relationship.
Fill a box with goodies like
bath products, energy drinks, chapsticks,
chocolate, colorful sharpies,
a framed picture of the two of you
and a cute teddy bear. The gifts will
come in handy throughout their
school year and each item will remind
them of you. For a Valentine’s
Day feel, sprinkle rose petals to the
box.

• If you’re a new couple, it might be
best to go cliché this year. Buy her a
dozen red roses, a box of chocolates
and a dinner-and-a-movie date.

• You can never go wrong with jewelry!
To make it more personalized,
get something with her birthstone
in it.

“I was 16 and didn’t know what
to get, so I gave a girl a necklace.”
–Van Phan, sophomore

• Experience gifts are great for couples
who have been together for a
while—they’ve had time to learn
the hobbies of one another. Think
of a hobby she’s into and brainstorm
from there. Is she an adventurous
girl? Try zip-lining or even skydiving.
Concert tickets and sports
games are always a good idea as well.

“I would prefer someone to take
me out than give me something,” –
Abby Thompson, sophomore

• It’s not the gift, but the thought that
counts

“He made sushi and gave me ice
cream, he bought me my favorite
drink and a whole bunch of balloons
because I was graduating. He made
it really public too.” –Euphie Ton,
freshman
For your guy:

• Guys can be hard to shop for, so
experience gifts are a great way to
go. If you’re lucky, his favorite band
or team is performing or playing a
game soon. If not, there are always
options, like paintball.

• Care packages are also a good idea
for guys. Fill the box with his favorite
candy, a hat from his favorite
sports team, a framed photo, and
his favorite movie.

• “Give something special, not standard.”
–Lauren Roberts, freshman

• If your guy’s a gamer, something for
his Xbox or PS3 might be the way to
go.

• Practical things make great gifts for
guys. Saving up some money for the
watches and wallets that cost a little
extra, like Fossil, will be worth it.
