The Georgia State Women’s soccer team capped off the weekend with another defensive shutout, as they beat the Texas State Bobcats 1-0.

Although the pitch was slippery, thanks to heavy rainfall, the weather at the GSU Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon was sublime.

Coming as no surprise, freshman forward Jimeana Cabrero was all over the ball during the match, scoring in the 29th minute. The goal would ultimately joist the Panthers to victory.

Brooke Shank also showed out, playing all 90 minutes and performing a dazzling spin move late in the second half before firing a shot on goal that was stopped by Bobcats’ keeper Heather Martin.

Once the Panthers had the 1-0 lead, it was all about the defense, which kept Bobcat star and 2018 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Kaylee Davis quiet throughout.

The Bobcats had a few opportunities throughout the first half earning three corner kicks and totaling three shots.

However, this seemed to be the closest they would get to scoring as goalkeeper Kendra Clarke only had to make one save on the day.

The second half saw another strong defensive performance from the Panthers, as they maintained their keep-away style of play from the previous game and once again held the Bobcats scoreless.

While the pitch conditions certainly were not ideal, the team capped off the perfect weekend and earned its sixth shutout of the season.
