Dr. Roby Greenwald, air pollution researcher, will join Georgia State’s School of Public Health as an assistant professor in the Division of Environmental Health on Nov. 1, according to Newswire.
Michael Eriksen, dean of the School of Public Health, said the school is thrilled to have Greenwald join the environmental health team to understand and improve Atlanta’s urban health.
“…He highlights the dangers that lie ahead from air pollution and it is imperative for us to devise ways and means of reducing the level of pollution that are exposed to the population of Atlanta,” he said.
Greenwald, who was previously a research assistant at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health, said he’s joining Georgia State’s School of Public Health because of its rapid growth, according to Newswise.
Eriksen said Greenwald’s qualifications match the school’s research priorities.
“We hired Dr. Greenwald through a formal search and hire process for tenure track faculty at Georgia State University. We formed a committee that reviewed applications and we interviewed applicants over the phone and in person,” he said. “Dr. Greenwald’s qualifications and expertise fit best with our division of environmental health’s teaching and research priorities.”
Greenwald said the city’s air is filled with various substances that cause serious harm to the environment and citizens, according to Newswise.
Eriksen said it will be an exciting challenge for Greenwald to identify potential solutions to air pollution within the city.
