Karimah Muhummed, an art major and senior at Georgia State, organized a flash mob with fellow Georgia State students as a way to commemorate her senior year in the unity plaza on April 1.
“Well, entering my senior year at Georgia State University I knew I wanted to go big and plan something great for my last semester. Then my sisters showed me Pharrell Williams’ music video for ‘Happy’ and right off the bat I knew I liked the song, and I wanted to plan a flash mob to the song,” Muhummed said
The flash mob was created for seniors to show that they were “happy” for graduation in May. However due to conflicting schedules with seniors, Muhummed decided to open the event to any Georgia State student who wanted to volunteer.
Muhummed said that the message for the flash mob was for everyone to be happy.
The flash mob was choreographed by Muhummed and Eugene Gibbs, a Georgia State junior studio arts major.
About 15 students came together to join the flash mob including the Salsa club and Break Dance club, according to Muhummed.
“I think the flash mob was pretty good. Everyone was really into it. It was a lot of fun for everyone, for the performers and for the people standing around,” Brandon Afflick, a Georgia State biology major, said.
The message for the flashmob was for everyone to be happy, according to Muhummed.
“I want people to be happy and I think that that’s what it will do… So as long as I go out there and see GSU students dancing, laughing, and having a good time, then I will know that the flash mob was a huge success,” Muhhammed said.
