Georgia State student and RA killed in car crash

The visitation for Shanel Little will be held Friday, March 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro, Ga. 

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 2 at New Macedonia Baptist Church at 3 p.m. in Riverdale, Ga. 

A Georgia State student died in a car crash this morning while on her way to work according to an article published at the Douglas County Sentinel.

Tracey Watson of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Public Information Office, confirmed that Shanel Marie Little, 21, of Riverdale was killed while traveling west on Highway 166 when she lost control of a Toyota RAV4 sports utility  vehicle, traveled down an embankment and hit a tree.

Little was on her way to teach at New Manchester High School.  The accident happened at about 7:45a.m., and Little was pronounced dead on site.

Little was a resident assistant at Georgia State.

Church members, family, friends, and colleagues showed their condolences for the student teacher via social media immediately learning about her death.

  1. So sad to learn about Shanel tragic accident. A great many will miss her beautiful smile and charming personality.

  2. So sad to hear this news about my former student. I taught her at Lake Ridge Elementary. My heart is aching from this news.

  3. It’s hard to type this post, however, I will feel horrible if I don’t give my condolences. I was just a few cars away and was one of the vehicles passing after she crashed. Just know that people immediately stopped and tried to assist her. It was a hard sight to see. I immediately began to pray for her soul and the strength of the family. I am extremely sorry for your lost. Just be assured that she can now serve as one of your many angels.

  4. Ms. Little was more than just a student teacher, she was a friendly smile to see every morning in passing. Our thoughts and prayers will be with her family and friends. The students at NMHS will miss her greatly.

  5. May her soul rest and abide with the Lord and smile down on her family, friends, and GSU family. My prayers go out to Shanel’s family during this time.
