Georgia State gets $850,000 donation for athletic programs

Georgia State Athletics received two financial gifts totaling to $850,000 that will support planned construction on the Georgia State football practice facility as well as different areas in the Athletics department.

Frank and Judy Strickland, who were already Panthers Athletic Club lifetime members for generous donations in the past, gifted $350,000 to the Athletic Department.

“We believe the growth and direction of Georgia State Athletics is leading to even greater national exposure for the entire university. The addition of football is opening new doors for everyone on campus, and that’s worth an investment,” Frank Strickland told Georgia State Athletics.

While Frank supports all of Georgia State’s different sports, he said Georgia State Athletics will continue to be an unrecognized institution without a productive football team.

“We very much want this university to be highly recognized,” Frank said to Athletics.

The money will go towards already planned construction of a weight room facility added on to the Georgia State football practice facility on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Athletics said on their website that the add-on will be roughly 7,000 square feet and have all the latest equipment.

AJC’s Doug Roberson reported Tuesday that Atheltics received an addition $500,000 dollar gift from an anonymous donor earlier this year that will go towards other sports and areas within Athletics.
