Georgia State women’s soccer held Davidson to a 0-0 draw after double overtime. A great performance from sophomore goalkeeper Brie Haynes saw the Panthers hold off a rampant Davidson side to claim the draw.
The first half of the game belonged to Davidson. The Wildcats had a shot come off the post in the sixth minute, and Haynes was forced into three early saves. Haynes had an excellent double save in the 11th minute, palming away Wildcats forward Jenni Isaac’s shot, and then saved a shot from the rebound.
Ten seconds later, Haynes had to come up with another big save to keep the Panthers in the game. The Wildcats hit the post in the 28th minute, and Haynes made another save in 38th minute. The Panthers finished the half at 0-0 despite being outshot 8-2.
The second half of the game saw the Panthers work their way back into the game. Ashley Nagy had a shot in the 47th minute, but was unable to find the back of the net. The Panthers had a few dangerous chances in overtime, but neither team was able to find a winner.
“I am happy after a solid weekend,” Head Coach Derek Leader said. “I thought our legs were heavy in the first half and we started slow as a result. We improved in the second half and were very good in overtime.”
The Panthers play next on Friday, Sept. 19 against Mercer at Panthersville.
