Student who shot a gun at Conyers Middle School placed in custody

A student who fired a gun at Conyers Middle School, located in Rockdale, County, was placed into custody May 5, according to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. The office said no injuries were reported and only one shot was fired before the gun was retrieved from the student. The Sheriff’s Office inspected the rest of the school, but no other weapons were found, according to 11 Alive.  Rockdale Sheriff Eric Levett said the event will be further investigated.

The Republican party sees new additions for 2016 presidential hopefuls with Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson

Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson have recently been added to 2016 Republican presidential hopefuls on May 4, according the Los Angeles Times. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are also Republican candidates running for president in the 2016 election. Fiorina is focused on competing against Hillary Rodham Clinton, the leading democratic presidential hopeful for the 2016 election, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Los Angeles Times also reported that Carson has been out of politics until 2013.

U.S. Secretary of State strives to pause Yemen War in recent trip to Saudi Arabia

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry visited Saudi Arabia on May 6 with goals to pause the Yemen War, according to ABC News. Yemeni civilians are caught between the Houthis, a rebel Islamic group, and bombings between Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, according to BBC news. With worsening human conditions such as poverty,government instability and continued violence in Yemen, more than 100,000 Yemeni civilians have fled to other countries. Security officials said strikes on May 6 killed over a few dozen rebels, according to ABC News. Although Kerry promotes a momentary pause in the Yemen War, he stressed for neither of the opposing sides to seek an advantage from the pause, according to ABC News.
