With free Latin cuisine and live jazz music, the 13th Annual Crossing Paths, Crossing Cultures international photo competition is sure to be an international experience in Atlanta.
“The event is aimed to bring together returned study abroad students and also international students studying here at Georgia State,” said Katrina Helz, one of the lead coordinators of the event.
Students are asked to submit photos of their study abroad experiences and then attend the ceremony, where their photos will be displayed and the competition winners will be announced.
The photo categories cover scenery—urban, rural, or whatever the environment students find themselves in—people and culture, and Panthers abroad—Georgia State students represented in other countries.
“I think it’s useful in getting future study abroad students excited at the prospect of going abroad,” Helz explained. “A picture is worth a thousand words, and once they see some of these images it becomes real for them: what kinds of opportunities are out there and what there is to see.”
The countries that will be represented through photos range from Cyprus to Korea and everywhere in between, including France, Australia, Korea, Turkey, South Africa, China and Belize, among others. International students studying at Georgia State were also welcome to submit photos of their Atlanta experiences.
Crossing Paths, Crossing Cultures will take place in the Veterans Memorial Hall in Dahlberg Hall on Thursday Nov. 14 from 5-7 p.m.
