Comcast users have been experiencing inflated fees for years, and the amount of areas affected by price increases has grown in 2015, according to the Republican Herald.
Starting July 1, Comcast customers, Georgia locations such as Newborn, Monticello, Grantsville, and Hogansville will see inflated costs for cable and amenities, according to a recent Comcast flyer.
The increased fees are in response to Comcast’s new innovations, according to the Comcast Vice President of Public Relations in the Big South Regions Alex Horwitz.
“We’re continuing to experience increased costs, including rising programming and operating expenses, while making investments in our network and next-generation technology to deliver innovations…” Horwitz said.
He also said innovations include multi-platform content and faster internet speeds.
Notices were sent to Comcast customers 30 days before fees were set to inflate, according to Horwitz.
He also said inflated prices have always been designated to specific areas, but the increased fees can affect different areas at different times.
Local Comcast customers’ bills will see an increase by as much as 3 percent, according to Horwitz.
Isaac Dolan, a Georgia State sophomore, said Comcast customers should expect an increase in the fee amount.
“I’m not with Comcast, but I think the inflation of their prices are expected with the inflation of the economy,” he said. “I think it’s pretty natural, but I know customers will not like it.”
Comcast user and a Georgia State geoscience student Taylor Dials said prices on everything nowadays are going up.
“It makes me wonder about how expensive things will be when I get older,” Dials said.
Horwitz said Comcast has been continuously improving its products for years, and the company has spent more than $2 billion on improving customer experience.
“This reflects network investments, additional workforce and customer service improvements,” he said.
