The Children Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation announced the Student Leadership Consortium (SLC) for Georgia State students looking to volunteer at the Hughes Spalding hospital, according to Michelle Berg, Cooperative Education and Internship Coordinator at the University Career Services.
Latrice Dudley, member of the Hughes Spalding Team at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, said there are many opportunities for SLC members.
“By volunteering, SLC members will emerge as philanthropic leaders who can build relationships, raise money, network, an effectively manage a fundraising campaign and capacity building for programs,” Dudley said.
The program focuses on benefiting the hospital while developing students in development coordinator and event coordinator positions, according to Dudley. Other student positions are listed on the hospital’s website and on Panther Career Net.
“The 2014-2015 inaugural SLC members will have the unique opportunity to lay the grassroots for a mutual, lasting community relationship between two flourishing institutes in downtown Atlanta. From their efforts, SLC members will make a significant impact supporting some of our community’s most vulnerable children—the patients receiving care at Hughes Spalding hospital,” Dudley said.
Dudley also said the SLC membership body will nominate outstanding members for three award categories at the end of the year. The deadline for applications is August 8.
Cameron Khan, a recent Georgia State graduate in film, works as a volunteer at Children Healthcare of Atlanta all year long.
“My work with the children has been nothing short of amazing. Their courage and strength inspired me and continue to do so as I visit them as often as I do,” Khan said. “As a student, a graduate, I believe that its our responsibility to volunteer and help those who cannot help themselves and it’s always good to lend a hand to those who work day in and day out for these kids or any other program for that matter.
