Chegg and Lyft coming to Georgia State

Chegg and Lyft are coming to Georgia State Thursday, Aug. 21 to give freshmen special move-in perks, according to a press release sent by SutherlandGold, a public and media relations company.

Carly Keller, Chegg’s spokesperson, said it is important for the company to inform students of resources and services available.

“As a student hub, it’s important for Chegg to let all students know what resources and services are available to them as well as welcome to the college and community,” Keller said.

Chegg specializes in online textbook rentals, homework help and scholarships according to the company’s website. This includes course review services and internship matching.

Lyft is a transportation network company founded in San Francisco, according to Lyft’s website. Students can download the transportation app and request pickup from a background-checked driver in the Atlanta community.

“Move-in day can be daunting. With parents swarming, shopping bags and moving boxes everywhere students can feel overwhelmed. By helping students move-in and offering some free goodies, Chegg & Lyft have the opportunity to help make Georgia State’s incoming students’ transition a little bit smoother.” Keller said.

Three freshman will also have the chance to win a Sharp Aquos HD 32″ TV for their dorm or apartment, according to the release. Students must redeem their Lyft promo code and the individuals will be selected by random drawing.

Janishia Waites, physical therapy major, said Lyft is a beneficial resource for transportation because she does not currently own a vehicle.

“Atlanta is really big and you never know when you want to do something that isn’t on campus.” Waites said.

Stephanie Wainaina, marketing junior said she’s never used Chegg. However, she believes there could be benefits of the discounts.

“I have never used Chegg but 10 percent off would help me so much on books. I spent so much money last year I’m looking for every discount I can get,” she said.

Students can sign up for Chegg to receive deals and access textbooks, according to the release. Lyft and other coupon codes will be available online until Sept. 30.

The next campuses Chegg and Lyft will visit are: University of Colorado Boulder (Aug. 21), Indiana University (Aug. 23) and San Jose State University (Aug. 23), according to the release.
