Bringing Turkish culture to campus

Sweet, flaky pastries, savory coffee, fun and calming music—Turkey Week will have everything needed to experience the rich Turkish culture right here in Atlanta.

Georgia State is featuring five countries as a part of the Office of International Initiatives’ International Education Month.

“The overall goal is to raise awareness about those countries and everything that Georgia State is doing in and with those countries,” said Amanda Roshan-Rawaan, the Executive Assistant to the associate provost. “Whether it’s study abroad programs or faculty collaboration research or budding international relationships with new colleges.”

Their strategic plan is to achieve distinction in globalizing the university. Turkey will be the first country featured, along with South Korea, South Africa, Brazil and China.

The Office of International Initiatives hopes to engage the student body with cooking demonstrations, Turkish food at select dining halls, films, coffee hours and talks.

“With over 60 events, it’s really a testament to how Georgia State is fulfilling its strategic plan,” said Roshan-Rawaan.

With Georgia State continuing to grow into such a diverse university, it’s important to the Office of International Initiatives to embrace and educate the whole student body on all the different cultures that make up Georgia State.

“International matters. It’s our centennial we’re going to celebrate all the wonderful things we’re doing.”

Turkey Week will be from October 21-25. Specific event information can be found at their website.
