The Atlanta Police Department (APD) investigated a suspicious bag this morning across from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business.
Lieutenant Azie Horne of the APD said after inspecting the bag it was determined that it did not contain an explosive device.
“It was a bag left by a homeless person but we had to check it just in case because it was odd the way he did it,” he said. “He just walked up and just left it against the building and walked away from it and a witness saw it and we just had to check it out.”
Horne also said today’s investigation was a safety measure.
“We brought everybody out here as a precaution to make sure everything was safe. We X-rayed the suitcase — nothing but items, clothing and miscellaneous papers,” he said.
The APD Bomb Squad was on the scene from approximately 10:45 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to determine the bag’s contents.
“We had an officer that was in a bomb suit. He actually walked down to it and X-rayed it,” Horne said.
An Explosive Ordinance Disposal robot was brought to the scene but not deployed according to Horne.
During the investigation, Broad Street was closed. Students attempting to get to Aderhold Learning Center were detoured to Luckie Street.
