On Tuesday, Georgia State men’s soccer team lost 2-1 to Duke, despite an inspired performance in goal from senior goalkeeper CJ Cochran, who recorded a career high of 13 saves.
The Panthers were overpowered by a rampant Duke offense, and were unlucky to concede two penalties, one which ended up being the game winner.
The first half began with an onslaught from Duke, with Cochran being called on to make five saves in the first ten minutes.
Duke managed to get on the score sheet in the 36th minute, with a fluid move finding the back of the net.
The Panthers responded almost immediately, with a dangerous ball played into the Blue Devils’ box a minute later, which took a deflection off a Duke player to go into the net. The half ended 1-1.
The second half continued as the first had, with Duke bossing the game. The Blue Devils took the lead when one of their players was fouled inside the 18-yard box in the 47th minute. The awarded penalty was duly converted and the score read 2-1.
Cochran recorded another six saves over the course of the half, and the game ended 2-1.
The Panthers will play tonight against Howard.
