Georgia State women’s soccer remained winless as the Panthers dropped the fourth straight game of the season with a 1-0 loss to Tennessee Tech. The Panthers traveled to Cookville, Tennessee to take on the Golden Eagles, and despite dominating play for much of the match, were unable to capitalize.
The Panthers began the match on the right foot. They forced Golden Eagles goalkeeper, former Panther Rebecca Toler, into three saves in the first half. Callie O’Connor and Whitney Ravan both had shots smothered by the Golden Eagles goalkeeper, with forward Ashley Nagy seeing a shot deflect off the post in the 23rd minute.
The Panthers went into the halftime break with the score at 0-0, despite having outshot Tennessee Tech 7-3.
Early in the second half, Tennessee Tech player Abi Gearing managed to fire a shot past Georgia State goalkeeper Christa Fox in the 51st minute. Ashley Nagy and the Panthers spent the rest of the game searching for an equalizer, with Nagy’s shot in the 61st minute saved by Toler.
Toler capped off an great performance by recording two more saves, one from Ravan and one from Taina Anglade, earning the shutout with 6 total saves. The game ended with a 1-0 defeat for the Panthers, despite out shooting the Golden Eagles 14-6 through the game.
The team will continue their hunt for that elusive first win Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. vs. Belmont.
