The Fourth of July is almost upon us, and many Atlantans may be scrambling to find an entertaining way to spend the day. Friday night will feature a multitude of events that are sure to satisfy even the most fickle event go-er.
A day revered for its patriotism, heavy drinking and fireworks, the Fourth of July brings the entire nation together to celebrate our independence. Although grilling in the backyard at home is suitable for some, there are plenty of events going on in downtown Atlanta for those with opposite intentions. From fireworks at Centennial Park to races in Buckhead, the following events won’t disappoint.
Fourth of July at Lenox Square
Located in the heart of Buckhead, this Fourth of July celebration features the largest fireworks display in Georgia. Along with musical performances and concession stands, Lenox Square will be announcing the winner of their second annual talent search, entitled ‘Atlanta’s Next Legend’. The winner will also be performing in front of everyone in attendance. Event begins at 6:00 pm.
This is one of the more entertaining events happening this Friday, beginning at 7:00 pm; Atlantans will be able to spend their evening at the Georgia Aquarium, enjoying beer, food, and live performances. Visitors will stay in the Oceans Ballroom, as well as watch the Centennial Park fireworks show from the aquarium rooftop. This event is partially a fundraiser for Georgia Aquarium education initiatives, and is priced between $45 and $65.

Centennial Olympic Park 4TH of July Celebration
Arguably the most popular event in Atlanta, this celebration will begin at 6:00 pm. Residents of Atlanta will be witnesses to an extravagant fireworks show, as well as a concert. The celebration is primarily a family event, and there will be several entertainers performing in the early evening. The firework show will be televised at 9:00 pm, and is known as the “best firework show in Atlanta”. Arrival via MARTA is suggested.
For all the fitness junkies out there, the 43rd annual Peachtree Road Race will begin at 6:45 am on Friday. The Peachtree Road Race is the largest 10K in the world, and more than 50,000 participants are expected to arrive. The race begins near Lenox Square, and end in Piedmont Park, with those who finish receiving a complementary T-shirt.
