Senior Maria Palacios birdied in the first playoff hole to grab a victory in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club Tuesday.
Palacios’ victory helped the Panthers to a second-place team finish with Campbell winning the title.
Palacios shot a 72 in the final round to tie with Campbell’s Kaylin Yost and Georgia’s Amira Alexander with a score of 2-under-par.
In the playoff, Palacios birdied before Yost and Alexander were able to complete the hole, securing the win.
The Panthers as a team shot a final round of 303 and finished the event 27-over-par.
Junior Lauren Court also put together a strong performance with a seventh place finish as she shot a 75 in the final round which totaled to 5-over-par for the tournament.
Senior Laura Sanchez added to Palacios’ and Court’s production with a fifteenth place finish with a final round of 75 and a tournament score of 9-over-par.
Palacios’ victory makes her the fourth panther to win the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate in the tournament’s history the first since Cathrine Madsen in 2010.
Next for the Panthers is the Sun Belt Championship held at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley, Ala. March 14-16.
