The women’s golf team secured a fifth place finish out of the 17 competing teams at the UALR Women’s Golf Classic at the Diamante Country Club Tuesday.
The team finished 72-over-par after shooting a 318 on the 54-hole course in the final round. No team in the tournament shot under 300 in tough conditions.
“It was tough today,” Head Coach Cathy Mant told Georgia State Athletics. “The wind was blowing, and the conditions were difficult, and I think got to us a little bit.”
The Panthers were led by Senior Maria Palacios who shot a 78 in the final round and two-consecutive 76s in the first two rounds. Palacios’ scores were good enough for seventh overall in the tournament.
The seventh place finish is Palacios’ fifth top 25 finish of the season, fourth top 10 of the season and second straight.
Senior Melissa Siviter also posted a top 25 performance finishing tied for 14, finishing 18-over par after shooting a 79 in the final round.
The Panthers finished the event behind Middle Tennessee State which shot a 304 followed by Oral Roberts, Wichita State and Central Arkansas.
The Panthers return to action for the final time in the regular season to host the John Kirk Panther intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club March 29-31.
