The Grammys: a classy event

Did you watch the Grammys? The 55th annual award show hosted by LL Cool J aired on Sunday, Feb. 10, and let me tell you…there was good, bad and even some shade. Let’s recap!

Taylor, can ya’ll
please just get back
together?

The show opened with Miss Taylor Swift and her circus themed performance. She was the ring  leader, alongside clowns and dancers… It was all very exciting. Then she started singing. “Weeeee are never, ever, ever, ever getting back togetherrrr!”

I don’t know why, but that song drives me crazy. Plus, Swift allegedly changed some of the lyrics of the song to take jabs at her ex boyfriend Harry Styles, according to E! Online.

Although I wasn’t there for that song, I did watch her whole performance and I have to admit she did do a really good job. I was really impressed with her vocals and her ability to sing well live. Some celebrities have difficulty with that, but Swift did it very well.

Dress Code?

One of the recurring jokes throughout the award show was the dress code. Prior to the event, a strict dress code was sent out to all of the attendees demanding they avoid showing a lot of “crack” and breasts, according to Clutch Magazine.

Grammy officials wanted the evening to be a high brow classy affair. Some artists didn’t com-
pletely get that memo though. Katy Perry, Kelly Rowland and Alicia Keys all turned heads
in skin tight dresses with sheer material and cut-outs.

Honestly, I do understand why a dress code was implemented, but half the fun of watching an award show is seeing what kind of crazy outfit a celebrity will wear. Nonetheless, everyone in at-
tendance looked very nice, so I guess the dress code worked.

Bob Marley Tribute

The most memorable performance of the night was the tribute to Bob Marley. The performance began with Bruno Mars singing “ Locked Out Of Heaven,” and then it went into some of Marley’s greatest hits. Joining Mars on stage was Sting, Rihanna, Ziggy Marley and Damien Marley.

In my opinion, Bruno Mars owned this entire performance. It was definitely a crowd favorite, according to the Huffington
Post. As a lover of Bob Marley, I thought the moment was beautiful and a visible sense of joy moved through the audience
during the performance. The effect that one person’s music can have on so many people is amazing.

And the winner is…

This year many Indie, Rock and country artists received recognition at the Grammy’s. The biggest winners of the night were
The Black Keys , Fun, Gotye and Carrie Underwood.

This was cool and it definitely brought a different vibe to the show. It is good when artists that are not main stream get proper recognition for their hard work. The only category I was disappointed in was best new artist. I really wanted Frank Ocean to win for his album, “Channel Orange.” However, the award went to Fun.

I really enjoyed the Grammys. Now…I wait for the Oscars.
