Frigid winter weather isn’t enough to keep some Georgia State students out of the pool.
The annual Polar Bear Plunge brings students, staff and alumni to the Indian Creek lodge to take a dip for a good cause.
“The event first took place in 2006, when the Department of Recreational Services felt a need to have a winter event at the Indian Creek Pool,” said Judith Moss of the Student Recreation Center. “The event is free to students and will include free food, games, prizes, and hot coco.”
Student and staff have until Feb. 15 to sign up for the free event. If students miss the deadline they can still register at the event with their Panther card. Check in will be at 2 p.m. on the day of the event and the swim begins at 3p.m.
“Over the past 7 years the GSU Polar Bear Plunge has evolved from an event to raise awareness of the plight of the polar bear into this year’s first ever “Plunge with a Purpose”,” Moss said. “This year the Department of Recreational Services will collaborate with the Office of Disability Services to give back to the students of Georgia State.”
In addition, a five-dollar tee shirt purchase proceeds are donated to the Bennett A. Brown Scholarship to aid students with language-based disabilities.
