The Perimeter College Department of Nursing is now the managerial unit of Georgia State University’s Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions.
The associate degree program’s new name is the Georgia State University School of Nursing Associate Degree Program, Perimeter College, according to a Georgia State news release.
This merger happened on July 1, because the Georgia Board of Nursing wants the requirements to be the same for all Perimeter College nursing students.
Bridgette Water, a Licensed Practitioner Nurse Bridge Track student, said she doesn’t like being one of the first students to go through this change.
“Clinicals are being rewritten and it’s total chaos,” she said.
Admissions requirements, current Perimeter College campuses and the cost for the program will remain the same as before.
Jasmine Morris, a LPN Bridge, said she doesn’t know much about the merger, because she feels that the school hasn’t provided enough information to current nursing students.
“This is the first semester where they’re doing this and since I’m already considered a nurse the merger pertains more to traditional students,” Morris said.
Water said she likes the fact that Georgia State will be stamped on her diploma and how easy it is to access the bachelor’s program at Georgia State.
The School of Nursing is also adding Dr. Ngozi Nkongho, who will be the director of the associate degree program, according to the news release.
Previously, she was the dean at St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Queens, New York. She has also held scholarly positions at a few schools and colleges and was appointee chief for the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) for 6 years.
