Four unknown males robbed two Georgia State students at gunpoint in their One12 Courtland residence around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 10.
No injuries were reported, but the suspects fled with a laptop and a PlayStation system from the residence, according to a Georgia State crime alert.
Senior Vice President of Student Housing in One12 Courtney Gordon said the four robbers entered through the front door, undetected.
“Based on the investigator’s research and video footage, it is believed they entered with a resident and her boyfriend,” he said.
One12 has now increased security presence in their buildings in order to ensure the safety of the residents after the robbery, according to Gordon.
“We increased security to 24/7 at the entry to both buildings and roaming throughout the community,” Gordon said.
Gordon also said it is important for residents to know their community, be aware of their surroundings and to be careful with who they bring into their apartment.
Since One12 is walking distance from Georgia State it appeals to many students, such as biology major and One12 resident Paulette Omeaku, who expressed her concerns after hearing about the robbery.
“I was worried when I found out that the robbery was in my building because it could’ve happened to anyone,” Omeaku said.
Omeaku said she feels more secure now that One12 residents have to show their ID and say their room number to verify that they live there. She also said there’s security guards and cameras in both buildings and in the parking garage.
“After the robbery I felt uneasy about the security effort at One12, but One12 has enforced security in the morning, afternoon and evening now,” she said.
