Looking for the ultimate girl’s night out? Chicks in Atlanta (C.I.A.) is a social group for ladies in their 20s and 30s who want to meet new friends and have fun with ones they already have. They host monthly cocktail parties at different hot spots around Atlanta. On March 31, Chicks in Atlanta celebrated their two year anniversary at the Lenox Grill in Buckhead. Chicks in Atlanta lived up to my expectations, as I had a great time and plan to attend future events.
Upon arrival, the fancy atmosphere of the Lenox Grill set the mood. The hostess directed me to the private area reserved for Chicks in Atlanta that ensured a ladies only event. Near the entrance there was a long buffet table loaded with free appetizers as well as some yummy bite-size desserts. The organizer, Becky Cronin, arranged for some budget friendly drink specials: $3 beers, $4 wines, and $5 martinis.
Chicks in Atlanta drew a large crowd of ladies, but once past the bar area there was a huge lounge filled with plenty of plush seating, so it wasn’t too crowded. All the partygoers received goodie bags filled with gift certificates and candy. There was a gift certificate for an $80 hair cut, a free Chick-fil-A sandwich, a free breakfast from the Lenox Grill, and lots of other various discount cards.
The general vibe was friendly and the atmosphere made it easy to socialize with the women I didn’t know. The music was low enough to talk over but loud enough to move to if you felt the urge. The upbeat music combined with the dim lights made the restaurant feel like the lounge area of a nightclub.
Cronin, the founder of Chicks in Atlanta, said when she moved here from New Jersey she found it hard to develop friendships with girls. One day, she was sitting by the pool sipping on a cocktail, wondering why it was so hard to meet girlfriends since she wasn’t a teenager anymore. She asked a couple of other ladies at the pool what they thought and was surprised to hear that they felt the same way. This was the genesis of Chicks in Atlanta.
“I thought there was a need in the female community. It’s hard to make friends with other women and I wanted to make it easier,” said Cronin.
The next Chicks in Atlanta cocktail event will be on Thursday, April 22 at Aja, a modern Asian fusion restaurant, located at the former Emeril’s location in Buckhead. The two story building is home to a ten foot brass Buddha that originated in Thailand. The private lounge where the party will take place overlooks the statue and the rest of the restaurant. Drink specials will include: $3 Kirin beers, $5 wines, and $5 martinis. Light appetizers will be served.
Over the past two years, Chicks in Atlanta has hosted charity events such as, “Sip, Shop, Socialize” and “Stock the Pond.” “Stock the Pond” parties are coed events designed to help Atlanta singles meet and connect with each other.
