Fans rejoice as ‘Glee’ returns to airwaves

Gleeks everywhere were excited about the premiere of Glee’s new season. Tuesday, April 13, right after American Idol at 9:30 p.m., the new season began. For those wondering what on earth is a “gleek”: a Glee geek .

The Glee cast could be found everywhere, from Oprah to American Idol, promoting the show’s return. McKinley High School’s New Directions glee club comes back this season as the winners of the sectionals competition. They spent last season preparing for the sectionals and this season as winners, they are now facing the regional’s competition.

The first episode for the second part of the first season was appropriately titled “Hell-O.” It featured songs with the word “hello,” the most notable being “Hello,” by Lionel Richie.  The rendition was performed by self-proclaimed diva Rachel and glee rival Jesse St. James. And yes, his name is Jesse St. James. He is the lead male vocal of Vocal Adrenaline, McKinley’s stiffest competition. This back half of the season finds New Directions facing off against Vocal Adrenaline, a group of frighteningly perfect singing robots, whose coach, Shelby Corcoran, lives, sleeps, and breathes victory.   Under her direction Vocal Adrenaline has won regionals three years in a row.

As for the love stories, what would any show be without them? The season begins with Rachel and Finn as an item even though it was over by the end of the episode. Still, Cupid  has his arrow pointed at the two. For now, Jesse St. James is Rachel’s new secret love while Finn vows to not give up on getting his woman back.

The grown-up relationships are just as silly. Unexpectedly, Sue was reinstated at McKinley High. Her agenda still has not changed: destroy New Directions along with its coach, Will Schuester. Will and soft-spoken Emma are together, finally, but not without drama there either. Emma decides after an encounter with Will’s soon to be, but not quite ex-wife Terri that she and Will should take some time apart before beginning a relationship.

Future episodes of the show are just as promising as the spring premiere.  The next episode, “The Power of Madonna,” features an all-Madonna soundtrack and promises for some major action as at least one character loses their virginity – to the obvious choice of “Like a Virgin.” Future guest stars Kristin Chenoweth, Neil Patrick Harris, Molly Shannon, and Olivia Newton-John should make things interesting as well.

Spring is here and Glee is back. Come on, jump on the band wagon, and sing shamelessly along with gleeks of all kinds. No judgment here.
