Georgia State softball dropped its second consecutive game of the Georgia Tech/Kennesaw State Invitational when losing to No. 21 Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 8-2.
It was the Panthers second-consecutve loss dropping their record to 6-3 on the season.
After a scoreless first, the Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the second. Callie Alford walked, then stole second base. She was driven in to score after an Ashley Christy single that gave a 1-0 to Georgia State.
In the top of the third, Tulsa got things going as freshman infielder Maggie Withee singled, then reached second on an error. Senior infielder Jill Barrett drove home Withee to give the Golden Hurricanes their first run.
Junior catcher Erica Sampson then slugged a three run home run to give Tulsa a 4-1 advantage.
Megan Litumbe homered in the bottom of the third to put the Panthers to within one at 4-2.
The Golden Hurricanes got their run back in the top of the fourth when Barrett drove home sophomore outfielder Jodi Emiston, who earlier walked, then advanced to second on a single from Withee increasing Tulsa’s lead to 5-2.
Tulsa continued to dominate as freshman pitcher Jill Roye singled to drive in Sampson and senior infielder Shelby Blanton. She tried to advance to second, but was thrown out. Still, the Golden Hurricane lead became 7-2.
Tulsa picked up one more run in the top of the seventh when Blanton singled which was followed by a walk from Sampson.
Senior pitcher Aimee Creger earned the win for the Golden Hurricanes. She pitched five innings, gave up two hits, two earned runs, six walks and struck out 10.
Medlam picked up the loss as she only pitched three innings, gave up four hits, three earned runs, one walk and struck out three.
