Blackwell’s home run helps Panthers upset No. 13 Georgia

Mandy Blackwell lofted a two-run home run to help Georgia State upset the No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs 4-2 at Jack Turner Field in Athens, Ga.

After a scoreless first, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with home runs by designated player Tina Iosefa and catcher Katie Browne.

In the top of the third, Taylor Anderson and Kensey Caldwell each singled, and a bad throw by shortstop Paige Wilson allowed Anderson to advance to third. Lauren Coleman singled to score Anderson and cut the deficit 2-1.

The Panthers took a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth when designated player Mandy Blackwell hit a two-run home run to left field.

In the top of the seventh, Coleman walked with two outs. Callie Alford doubled to plate Coleman and give Georgia State a 4-2 lead.

The win was awarded to Kaitlyn Medlam who is now 17-10 on the year.

Chelsea Wilkinson was credited with the loss and is now 24-6 on the season.

Georgia State will return to Sun Belt conference play this weekend with a three-game road series at Louisiana-Lafayette.
