Second annual Black Conservative Summit

The Second Annual Black Conservative Summit will be hosted this Thursday, Feb. 21 in a collective effort of The Conservative Alliance, The Frederick Douglass Foundation and The Georgia Black Republican Council.

The purpose of the summit is to help spread awareness and understanding about legislative and political initiatives in Georgia, as well as connecting state and congressional leaders to people who would like to help make a difference in their community.

“This is not only a Conservative thing or a Democratic thing. It’s a meeting with a panel of experts in various subjects who can give any input on how to make changes in the Community,” said Jason Halliburton, vice president of operations for the Black Conservative Summit.

According to Halliburton, the summit is in response to a large amount of tax dollars spent with little significant positive change to the Black Community.

“Recently, there have been complaints about the leadership in some communities, and people in those communities feel they don’t share all of the same ideas as their representatives,” Halliburton said. “At the Summit, for example, we may instruct people on how they can run for public office themselves, or get involved in other ways that can directly affect the community,”

African-American members of the conservative organizations have recently had an important role helping Georgia solve critical thinking and intra-departmental communication problems and

the summit will allow these leaders to use their ideas to help find solutions to the problems.

The summit is to be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, located in the State Capitol Complex.
